Parental Information

Physical Education

Depending on which class you are in, PE is taught on either a Wednesday or Thursday.

5S – Wednesday

5T – Wednesday

5U – Thursday

PE Kits

Black/blue/grey shorts or leggings

White t-shirt

Dark sweatshirt for outdoor PE

Pumps or trainers – children cannot participate in PE with bare feet.

We endeavour to conduct most of our PE lessons outside, unless of inclement weather. Children may wear black/blue/grey jogging bottoms during these lessons, if they so wish.

Reading

The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go. As teachers we expect children to read for at least 10 minutes a day and to get their homework diary signed after each read. If this is done, and brought into school, each child will receive a tick on the class ‘Raving Reader’ chart which will gain them prizes! The more they read, the better the prizes!

The children also have many fantastic interactive books to read on Bug Club. Teachers assign children books to read and answer questions on. Each class has a competition to see who can read the most each month as well as the whole school leader board in the hall. Furthermore children can now take home books from our new library during a weekly slot.

Can you read the most books and be on one of the leader boards?

Homework

In Year 5, children will receive their homework on a prepared sheet, in their homework book, each Thursday. Children will receive topic/literacy, reading, maths and spellings homework each week.

Spellings homework will usually include ten spellings which they are tested on, on a Wednesday. The children will be expected to use some of the different strategies which we teach to help them learn the spellings.

Maths homework is set on the website My Maths (if you are using a tablet, you can download the app ‘Puffin academy’).

Reading homework is set on the website Active Learn Primary whereby the children will interact with interactive books to read on Bug Club. We will assign children books to read and answer questions on.

Topic/English homework could be an array of different activities based around the IPC/Literacy  topic at the time.
